Urban Islanders an environmental education research exchange program. Started in Nov. of 2018. As a outcome of visits made to Maine for speaking engagements during the summer of 2018 with the North Philly peace Park the concept of research exchange as it relates to environmental education broadened and expanded in new ways. Additional being in forest, exploring islands and farm land all formed this wider vision. Meeting and interacting with refugees and immigrant population from all over the world, hearing their stories and seeing their struggles paralleled the same in in part issues and struggles of the urban African American and other vulnerable populations hear in Phila.

Zakiyyah Ali 

As a new organization Zakiyyah Ali is the project leader, with Culture Works pending as board.

For the leader of project Zakiyyah Ali has a long distinguished career in food service,teaching, environmental ed, travel and community engagement. For the past 20 or so years she has shared her culinary skills as entrepreneur and educator.she taught for over 25 years at Temple University PASCEP and with communities in schools program for over 8 years. For the last 5 years zakiyyah has been a major player with the north philly peace park. Her role there has ranged from educator, gardened, chef, fundraiser,consultant, grant writer, member of design team, traveling speaker and more.  Along with possible solutions for the same.

Zakiyyah has a wealth of knowledge, skills and first hand experiences in the areas of hunger and poverty in underserved communities
